I agree that renewable energy is the way to go for truck stops, but they will want “grid energy” and rely on “local solar” only to the extent that the “local solar” is tied into the grid. If putting solar near truck stops is more economical than putting elsewhere, that will be great, but it makes no sense to pay a premium to do so. So (at least in the East) they will need to pay the “10s of millions” to upgrade their service from low to high voltage once their power requirement goes over 5MW. A better alternative would be swapping batteries in EVs and then recharging most of the batteries at night. But that is not very likely.
