Hi! I already passed all proctered exams. I think I could give you some useful hints:
You need to manage your time very well. The duration of the exam is about 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer between 40 and 50 questions. So, on average you have to answer each reactive in 1 minute and 30 seconds. My recomendation here is read carefully and respond rapidly, if you either do not have the answer or have doubts make your best guess and continue to the next question. Never get stuck in a single question because all question have the same value.
Keep concentration, remember that if you study the materials and understand main concepts you will not have problem at all passing the exam.
Get yourself comfortable with the platform of Person test center. They have a mock exam to learn how to use the platform.
If you are doing exam in your home you are not allowed to use pen and paper to make calculations. They provide to you a virtual sheet that is very unconfortable to use, so my advice is practicing doing calculations in paint. On the other hand, if you are doing the exam in a test center they are going to provide you pen and paper.
There are a lot of questions and you have on average about 1 minute and half minutes to answer each reactive.
Thank you Emmanuel!
For the ones who are taking the exam at home, here is the white board for us to practice: https://home.pearsonvue.com/onvue/whiteboard.
For the calculator they do not have the same simulation page, but they sent me this PDF with instructions: https://home.pearsonvue.com/Clients/ASNT/ASNT_Calculator_Guide.aspx [edited by author]
Thanks Ana! I just tried using the whiteboard and it's such a pain. So uncomfortable!
I just took the exam. I am sure using the whiteboard harmed my experience and possibly my grade. Personvue must create a more user-friendly whiteboard or let us use paper and pencil.
Ana, thanks for the information. The link to the PDF is probably wrong, could you post the correct one? Thanks
Thank you very much Ana!
Thanks for the information, altough now Im even more scared lol. Thanks a lot though
This is very useful! Thank you.
Thank you!
Thank you
Dear Emmanuel, Congratulations for clearing all the exams. This is jay from India. I have scheduled my proctored exam in upcoming week. Due to lock down because of COVID-19, I am unable to go to exam center.Hence I scheduled my exam at home. I am very comfortable with pen and paper but if i am not allowed to use pen and paper it is going to be very difficult for me. Any suggestion on doing calculation online. Can we use pen tablet to do online calculation? or any substitute to use pen and paper.
Thanx for ur reply After passing all exams. have u applied for On-campus admission at MIT? Which things you give more weights 1-Lectures 2-Quizzes/ Finger exercises 3-homework 4-Mid term / Final Exam
(b) Books recommended course wise
The time is the key! Practice.
It seems like it would be really uncomfortable to do calculations online and will definitely put you at a disadvantage if you cannot go to a test center for taking the proctored exam.
I was looking at the notes about doing the online proctored exam and it says we can't use pen and paper for calculations. Do similar restrictions apply in the exam centers?
For the in-person proctored exam they give you several sheets of plastified paper and a marker. You leave all your notes without erasing them so they can check them out later.
