If the CCS cost is low like $100/ton of CO2 that would be a game changer for coal and gas . Of course the geology in the environment has to allow deep storage . May be the CO2 can be converted into carbonates or something else to allow long duration storage. Methane emission from coal mining is a huge problem and burning methane produces CO2 ; I don't know how much CO2 is produced through burning methane compared to releasing it as is supposedly 20 times as potent.
